Richard began working with his hands early on. In his early teens he built a blacksmith’s forge in his backyard, making lawn tools with his father, as well as working in the metal finishing department at a dental laboratory in his hometown of Auburn, AL. At this time he discovered his love of detailed handwork and went on to be a jeweler for a local business where he saved up enough money to move to Phoenix, AZ to study the craft of luthiery. A graduate of Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery, Richard DeWitt has worked for Rick Turner for the past 3&½ years. Aside from working full-time for Turner/Renaissance, he has spent a considerable amount of time building his own instruments after regular work hours in Rick’s shop as well as repairing and modifying instruments ranging the whole gamut of affordability. His goal is to provide a durable, aesthetically balanced, well-voiced and American-made electric instrument at a reasonable price.
